About
Meet kasandra
Kasandra is a Calgary-based artist who has experienced and lived in much of Canada. Growing up on the east coast, she won a modest high school mural contest and was encouraged to pursue the arts.
In her early twenties, she moved from coast to coast with her husband and daughter, where she studied art at Langara College in Vancouver.
And though the romance with her husband did not last in a traditional sense, she stayed put in the beautiful province of British Columbia. She began a career in the legal field to offer her daughter structure and opportunity. Two decades after the birth of her first daughter, she was blessed with two more. Kasandra spent the following twenty-something years in holistic medicine.
Sometimes an artist’s journey is not rooted in professional training or credentials so much as being open to a power within when it presents itself at the right stage of life.
In 2019 she was driving through big sky country with her daughter, Pauline, and remarked it was so beautiful she wished she could paint the clouds. Weeks later, on her birthday, each of her girls gifted her with the supplies needed to seriously pursue her passions.
When we are young, we have a sense of trueness and clarity for what we love and little by little, we lose sight of those things with every job we take and every responsibility that piles up. But that does not mean we will not find our way back as life experience teaches us the true meaning of how we are meant to spend our days.
Artist Statement
KASANDRA HARFIELD
I believe happiness comes from within and is a matter of practicing perspective. My artwork is meant to energize the space around it, and to bring hope and encouragement through its vibrancy, movement and texture. I aspire to embody a sense of joy and renewal every day through my work and the relationships I hold dear.
I paint without preconceived notions or a plan of what should be to make room for spontaneity and the meditative qualities of play. I want to inspire the viewer to take a step back and feel the connection between their own innate beauty and the artwork. Every day, I attempt to grow in understanding, kindness, courage, skill and work to bring harmony to my life and those around me.
